LYMM Ladies hockey team could clinch a league title, promotion and a semi-finals spot in a national competition this weekend.

But they have a long trip to Eastbourne to negotiate for success on all fronts to come off.

Lymm need only a draw at home to seventh-placed Northop Hall on Saturday to be confirmed as Cheshire Hockey League Division One champions, securing automoatic promotion to the North League in the process.

And then after Saturday's clash, the women will travel by mini bus the 265 miles and five-hour  journey down to the south coast in preparation for Sunday's England Hockey Investec Women's Vase quarter final clash with Eastbourne Ladies.

Eastbourne, currently top of the Sussex Ladies League Premier Division, are like Lymm in that they have never reached the final of this competition before.

The winners on Sunday will go on to face Croydon and Old Whitgiftian Ladies or Stafford Ladies in the semi finals on March 23, while the final is scheduled for April 26 in Nottingham.

It is a crucial period for Lymm as they seek rewards for their season's fine efforts so far.

They face another double header the following weekend, their penultimate league game of the season coming on Saturday, March 15, and then their crunch Cheshire Cup semi-final clash with Bowdon Hightown 24 hours later.

In the league, Lymm have been unbeaten all season and failed to win on only one occasion.
