FOUR second-half goals by Jack Major helped Warrington campus men’s hockey team claim the league title as they toppled Salford’s seconds 8-3.
With the prospect of silverware at stake, Warrington were keen to quash any nerves early on and they could not have wished for a better start when captain Tom Little’s strike fizzed past the Salford goalkeeper.
Little turned from hero to zero after a cynical foul saw the skipper sin-binned for five minutes, though Warrington continued to press forward and got their reward when George Kemp went on a mazy run to double their lead.
Kemp added another just before half time, a theme that continued after the break as Major put the game and the championship beyond doubt when he darted past half the opposing team before unleashing a rocket that sparked celebrations on and off the pitch.
Three more from Major and another from Kemp completed the rout and Warrington were crowned champions in front of a delighted home crowd.
