Linotype Cheadle HN 2

A TORRENTIAL downpour almost played havoc, but the reliable Gorsey Lane pitch stood up to the elements and an entertaining game was only decided with two late Jordan Thompson goals.

Efforts from Dean Jennings and Aaron Williams never really threatened Linotype in the first half and it became clear the visitors had the edge up front.

Hayes did produce a great moment of skill on the half hour to set up a shooting opportunity, but his dipping shot flew just over the crossbar.

After the break substitute Craig Smith’s shot cannoned off the upright with the keeper stranded, but the hosts could not turn these efforts into the goals they needed.

At the other end Matt Latham was called to make some herioc saves to keep Rylands in the game, denying Cameron Manning and Thompson.

But Rylands and Latham’s luck ran out 10 minutes from time, Thompson placing a low shot into the corner before adding a second as Rylands pressed forward for the equaliser.

Rylands: Latham, Rushton, Morley (Mather), Shepherd, Watson (McAuliffe), J Sinker, N Jordan, Hayes, Jennings (Mannion), Williams (Smith), Deakin (Dermody).
