IN retaining the Cock O’ The North Cup on Sunday, Lymm not only crowned an unprecedented unbeaten season of senior colts rugby but capped an incredible three-season spell.

Playing for a maximum of four trophies in each of the three seasons, those being the Raging Bull North West Colts A League, Raging Bull League Cup, Cheshire Cup and the Cock O’ The North Cup, Lymm have won nine of the 12 and tied for two others. During this remarkable trio of seasons they have played 71 fixtures, losing just three, drawing one and prevailing in the rest, scoring 2,147 points and conceding just 675 in the process.

Lymm RFC president Simon Plumb said: “Our senior colts have also had individual successes in Ross Harrison’s England caps at under 18s, under 19s and under 20s, his elevation to the Sale Sharks squad and James Mitchell’s England caps at under 16s, under 17s and under 18s level.

“However, the most impressive thing for me is that 14 members of these three senior colts squads have already played first-team rugby for Lymm at National League Three level.

“Many more have played senior rugby for Lymm and I'm sure that it won’t be long before many more are challenging for first-team places.”

Lymm’s mini, junior and colts chairman Andy Leach added: “After our junior colts won the National Under 17s Cup in 2009, we decided to establish our ‘Colts Academy’ in an effort to enhance the standard of coaching we could offer to these young men “With the Colts Academy coaching team expertly led by former first-team captain Adam Fletcher, our achievements both in terms of colts performances and creation of a seamless passage from colts to senior level have exceeded expectations.” Unsurprisingly, Fletcher is immensely proud of the progress shown by his young charges.

“The pleasing thing is that this represents the efforts of three different squads competing across the north of England,” he said.

“Each season taking on challenges from different quarters; and not one team playing the same opposition year in, year out while remaining unbeaten. “This has presented many challenges, which I am delighted to say that the players have met brilliantly.”
