ALAN Hunte is not the only Wolves old boy with a point to prove tomorrow, Friday.

Leading Salford to a first victory under his watch would do no harm to the chances of caretaker boss Hunte being handed the permanent position by new owner Marwen Koukash.

Hunte, the former St Helens, Hull and Great Britain utility back who who scored 56 tries in 91 appearances for Wolves between 1999 and 2001, is joined in attempting to plot Warrington’s downfall by Martin Gleeson.

Once a club record signing from Saints, Gleeson was released soon after Tony Smith’s arrival at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in a move that took the international centre to Wigan with Richie Mathers coming the other way.

Gleeson has returned to the game this season with Salford after serving an 18-month doping ban.

Salford have collected three points from their last three games after they had gone eight months without a win.

Their season was never going to get off to a great start due to the club’s financial crisis that was only alleviated by the arrival of racehorse owner Koukash last month.

A friendly with Leigh Centurions had to be cancelled in January because they did not have enough players, highlighting the difficult foundations coming into the 2013 campaign.

Because of the financial plight, a lot of experienced and senior players moved on - including Joel Moon to Leeds, Daniel Holdsworth to Hull, Sean Gleeson to Hull KR, Vinnie Anderson to Carcassonne, Luke Adamson to Bath and Adam Sidlow to Bradford, while Luke Patten retired.

Youngsters have had to step up to the crease and loan signings have been made, including Warrington’s Rhys Williams for a month, and it led to a first win of the year on their last home appearance against Hull KR.
