BOWLS and the Grand National will join forces when an inaugural crown green event starts in town.

The £2,200 Tommy Garaven Memorial Trophy Invitation 32 will make its debut on Tetley Walker’s No.1 green on April 6, with plans in place to make it an annual Grand National day competition.

Some of the game’s best bowlers, including number one Gary Ellis, will be taking part, while a 30-minute break in play has been scheduled to allow all involved to watch Aintree’s big race.

Games, 21-up, will start at 10am and the winner will collect £750.
