Leigh 1 Warrington 3

WARRINGTON men’s hockey team made a perfect start to the second half of the season by handing table-topping Leigh their first defeat of the campaign.

Both sides had chances in a tight first half when Leigh missed a penalty flick, but neither could make the breakthrough until Ben Vickers showed the league leaders how to convert from the spot.

Leigh responded well to restore parity, but Warrington did not let their heads drop and instead showed great resilience to battle back into the lead.

A great strike from Steve Worrall restored their advantage, before victory was finally confirmed in the dying minutes when Tom Yates squeezed the ball home for a 3-1 win.

Lymm Ladies 2nd 1 Warrington Ladies 0

WARRINGTON women’s first team gave it their all but couldn’t avoid a narrow 1-0 defeat to Lymm's second string.

After going behind early, Sarah Milner and Sarah Gregson marshalled the defence to prevent any further damage and were assisted by some crucial saves from player-of-the-match Tracy Jackson.

Steph Lace was outstanding in midfield, creating a string of chances that Warrington couldn’t capitalise on.
