PUPILS from Great Sankey High School were celebrating after beating youngsters from Warrington, Widnes and St Helens schools to the fourth annual Mond Trophy.
Developed by the Centre of Excellence for Science and Maths at Cronton Sixth Form College in Widnes, the team-based competition puts groups of budding year 10 scientists against each other in six rounds of maths, physics, biology, chemistry, applied sciences and animal management.
Students are tested not on scientific knowledge, teamwork and general problem-solving.
The team of Louise Gabbott, Chris Quinn, Chris Bull and Ellie Beckett helped the Barrow Hall Lane school win the competition for the second time in four years.
