A TEAM of Alderman Bolton Primary School pupils have been awarded three trophies in the Youthbike educational scheme’s yearly residential.

Following on from their success at the Warrington Wheels Bike Show last May, the Bolton Bikers, made up of youngsters from year six, set their sights on the National Youthbike competition.

The competition is aimed at young people aged up to 21, and is designed to promote a variety of job skills such as discussion, financial planning and safe workshop practice.

Entrants were invited to enter their motorcycle-based creation at a weekend residential last month.

Three of the Bolton Bikers – Callum Hubbersty, Georgia James, and Rebecca Holmes – attended the residential with their bovine brainchild, the Cowasaki Mootorcycle.

They were the only primary school and the only north west team to enter the competition.

They headed to Lincolnshire and camped the night before the event in order to prepare.

Approximately 20 entrants from as far afield as Glasgow and Cardiff set up their exhibits for the judges on Saturday morning.

Each team was required to answer a series of questions related to their inventions.

The presentation ceremony on Saturday saw the Bolton Bikers receive three trophies for their motorcycle, claiming best newcomers, most imaginative, and best in show awards for the fantasy category.

Liz Towler, a year six teacher from the school, said: “We are incredibly proud of the team. They have worked so hard together to create the bike. The bike club project created an enormous sense of team spirit within the group and boosted the students’ confidence immensely.
