Former community base has makeover to reopen as dance studio

A DILAPIDATED community centre in Wilderspool has been revitalised and turned into a dance studio.

The former Causeway Community Centre, on River Road, has been given a new lease of life thanks to Jenny Corcoran, with help from Warrington Borough Council.

The 31-year-old said: “I started running dance classes in Stockton Heath, Appleton and Grappenhall.

“I started off with zumba for adults and expanded to zumba for children and went from there to street dance and tap dance.

“I was just hiring halls and running off my own costs.”

But the constant travelling was hindering trained dancer Jenny, of Warburton Street, Stockton Heath, in launching further classes.

“My own academy is something I have wanted to do,” added Jenny. “I contacted the council and they showed me a building and I went to look at the community centre in June.

“The building was ready to fall down, all the wood was rotten. It was wrecked but I could see the potential it had.”

The council completed work to the outside while Jenny repaired the inside, kitting it out for dance and personal fitness sessions.

And JC Dance Academy launches on Saturday from noon with Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson on hand to help open the centre.

The new permanent base means Jenny can expand her classes to include belly dancing and adult tap dancing.
