WIND turbine workers and trade unionists will be picketing outside Warrington Wolves Rugby Club tonight, angered about the loss of 600 jobs.

This latest action follows a series of protests around the country including a demonstration outside Vestas HQ in Birchwood, on the day they announced second quarter profits of £40M.

The wind turbine company, which has also recently received £6million from the public purse, still refuse to pay the 11 workers who occupied the profitable factory Isle of Wight factory, their redundancy following closure.

The Vestas Workers Support Group will gather outside the rugby ground from 7.15pm for the home game against Wakefield Wildcats.

A spokesman for the group said: “Do Warrington Wolves want a discredited company who serves redundancy notices in pizza boxes as their sponsor?

“The Warrington Wolves players are members of the GMB Union and we call on them to tell the club to end the sponsor by Vestas.”

Vestas workers demand the Government steps in to nationalise Vestas to save green jobs.
