HEATHER Mitchell has listened to Take That’s Greatest Day hundreds of times.

But it really was ‘the best day of my life’ when the 26-year-old won the chance to ride in a pink Rolls Royce with her idol Gary Barlow last Thursday.

Gary made a brief pitstop in Warrington with Padgate’s Chris Evans, Top Gear motoring expert James May and science guru Prof Brian Cox during their 24-hour Lands End to John O’Groats FAB1 charity drive in a bid to raise £1 million for Breast Cancer Care.

Heather, from Woolston, was among the first to arrive at Golden Square dressed in pink to catch a glimpse of the FAB foursome.

But it also proved to be her lucky day when Chris pulled her name out of the raffle draw.

“It was the most amazing experience,” she said.

“They were all great. To sit next to Gary in the car and have a full chat with him was fantastic. It may have only been a couple of mins but it was the best day of my life.”

Hundreds packed into the Old Fish Market to wait for the stars to arrive.

Many had been patiently waiting for four hours but it was almost 6.30pm when the Rolls Royce Ghost rollled into town.

As well as taking time to pose for photographs and sign autographs, 42-year-old Gary got on stage to give a rendition of Back For Good.

Speaking exclusively to the Warrington Guardian, he said: “It’s been good, I can’t believe we’ve been on the road for 10 hours, it doesn’t feel like we have.

“It’s funny because James and Brian have been putting me off a bit talking about atoms and all the rest of it, and me and Chris have been sat in the back talking about music.”

It may have been his first venture up north for a while, but it’s not the first time the Frodsham singer has been in Warrington.

“Do you know what I must tell you, we drove up here and I couldn’t picture where I was at first,” he said.

“When I first got a car, because there was a Mcdonald’s here, me and my mate would come here every night. Every night. And I couldn’t picture where it was as it’s changed quite a bit.

“I came to Mr Smiths a few times too, it was sort of a bit of a dive when I was there when I was 18. But no, it took me ages to work out where we were but I know where I am now and it’s good to be here!”

Among the breast cancer survivors who got to meet the group were Brenda Turner, aged 63, from Padgate, who has been cancer free for 10 years and now helps other sufferers.

“Both my mum and her mum had breast cancer so I always knew it was in the family,” she said.

“So I took the decision to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery and it was the best thing I ever did. It’s amazing being here today.”

Ian Cox, general manager of Golden Square: "The atmosphere was fantastic and it was great to see the town come together for such a worthy cause.

“Watching the superstars of radio, TV and music and seeing the crowds reactions was brilliant.

“It also touched everyone’s hearts to see the breast cancer survivors turn out to share their stories and show their courage. It was a truly inspiring event.”

The FAB1 Rolls Royce is available to hire to raise money for the cancer charity, from £5,000 a day. To find out more visit fab1million.co.uk
