A UNIQUE concert will be held at the Parr Hall next month to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Warrington Male Voice Choir and The Royal British Legion are staging a Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 1.

Starting at 7.30pm, the evening will feature performances from Warrington Male Voice Choir and The Combined Bands of The Lancashire Artillery Band and The Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

The audience will be singing of songs from the First World War, there will be a reading by the choir’s patron, Terry Waite CBE and a service of remembrance and reflection led by Reverend Stephen Kingsnorth.

The evening will be hosted by Bob Williams. It’s understood that this is the first time such an event has taken place in Warrington.

Proceeds from the evening will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2014 and the Choir’s 2014 charity, Fisher House - ’A home away from home’ providing support for the families of military personnel recovering at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

George Hill, vice-chairman of Warrington Male Voice Choir, said: “We are delighted to be working with The Royal British Legion to stage this rather special event; an evening for people of all ages and an evening that promises to be both emotional and enjoyable."

Tickets are £10 (Under 16s, £5) from 442345, pyramidparrhall.com or ticketmaster.com or in person from the Pyramid/Parr Hall ticket office.
