THE polls are now open for residents to pick their new MPs and Warrington borough councillors.

Polling stations opened at 7am this morning, Thursday, as the town gets set to pick who they want to represent them.

The battle to win the Warrington South seat has been one of the most hotly contested in decades as the Conservative’s Labour and Liberal Democrat parties all believe that they can win the seat.

And the campaign by the Conservative’s David Mowat, Nick Bent for Labour and Lib Dem’s Jo Crotty has seen a parade of political heavyweights from the three main parties visit the constituency to bolster support for the candidates.

UKIP’s James Ashington will be looking for an upset though as he stands in Warrington South as does Steph Davies for the Green Party

Steph Davies will also hope to pick up votes for the Green Party.

In Warrington North Labour’s Helen Jones will be fighting for re-election against Paul Campbell for the Conservatives and Lib Dem candidate Dave Eccles.

Independent Albert Scott completes the candidate list in the north of the town as he fights for a better deal for pensioners.

And it is not just the General Election. Voters will also decide on 20 seats that are up for grabs in the borough council elections.

Among the candidates are executive board member Bob Barr, who is up for reselection in Lymm, and former mayor Graham Welborn in Latchford West, both representing the Lib Dems.
