LAWRENCE Bellamy, associate dean at the University of Chester's Padgate Campus, talks congestion in his latest column

Ask most people what E20 is and they'll probably think it's a reference to a BBC soap.

However for the businesses of Warrington it's a 22 million person ᆪ100 billion plus market opportunity connected by a road and sea network of over 1100 miles. Stretching from Limerick in Ireland to St Petersburg in Russia the route, which includes the M62 goes through many of the most prosperous cities of Northern Europe passing close to Liverpool, Manchester, Copenhagen, Stockholm, across Estonia and into Russia.

Whilst the main parts of the route are there ferry crossings are still not ideal with restrictions preventing the best possible movement of goods and people.

So there is a growing interest group putting forward the case for development. Omega has potential as the E20 route develops, with major firms positioned to take advantage of the route.

Omega though is suffering a little from its own success, with increased congestion around the access junction requiring further road development to take place.

To make the best possible use of the strategic location of Warrington getting flow, whether across the country or across Europe is vitally important.

Nothing will turn businesses off more than wasteful congestion when time is money.
