THE manager of a Stockton Heath computer shop was in for a shock when he arrived at work on Thursday.

Strong winds overnight meant the top half of the building had crumbled, leaving bricks and debris outside DCS Computers on Walton Road.

Gusts of up to 111mph in the Pennines left thousands of homes and businesses across the country without power at the end of last week.

And Warrington was hit too.

Part of the roof from the away end at The Halliwell Jones Stadium was damaged in the winds.

The council and police closed part of Dallam Lane, between Buckley Street and Owen Street, on Thursday as a result.

A Wolves spokesman said: “We can confirm that remedial work was immediately carried out in the West Stand of the stadium within a matter of hours of the roof damage being caused by the high winds.

“This ensured that the stadium was safe and Dallam Lane could reopen with the least amount of disruption caused. Further work will be carried out once the winds have subsided.”

Meanwhile Froghall Lane was closed in both directions on Thursday morning close to the junction with Midland Way after a chimney fell to the ground.
