A LARGE number of patients suffering from breathing difficulties were treated by NHS teams in the town at the end of last week following strong winds.
People with asthma suffered symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath, which were thought to be triggered by the cold air. Dr Steve Owen, respiratory consultant physician at Warrington Hospital, said: “On very cold or windy days, it’s best to stay indoors if you think it might bring on your symptoms.
“The cold air can sometimes act as an irritant. Wear a preferably non-woollen scarf over your nose and mouth.
“If you do go outside be extra careful about taking your regular medications.”
