OPERATORS of Risley tip say they are on target to close the site this year.
Biffa Waste Services, who run the landfill site, were told they had to fill the site by October by Warrington Borough Council.
Councillors meeting in December agreed they could have an extension to keep on using the site – but that work could not run into 2012, as they had requested.
Now, a report to be delivered to the development control management committee says the company is on track to meet the target.
Peter Axford, planning officer at Warrington Borough Council, said: “The company has confirmed that at the current rate of input, the void will be full by the approved timescale.
“It must be pointed out that officers cannot guarantee this but input rates strongly indicate that waste deposit is on course to cease by October.”
Biffa had missed its previous deadline to complete the work on the site, and angry councillors at the time said Biffa needed to keep to the latest deadline.
Clr Chris Fitzsimmons (LAB – Birchwood) said: “When is a final application not a final application? When you are dealing with Biffa.
“The local community has every right to expect stringent conditions.”
The report will be discussed at the meeting at the Town Hall tonight, Thursday, at 6.30pm.
