WARRINGTON Wolves have announced a £2 million development at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, taking the capacity to 15,000.

And the Warrington Guardian can today show you exclusive images of the new look.

Builders will move in during the summer to fill in two corners of the stadium, making space for 2,000 more fans. Extra standing room will be created between the South and East stands while more seats will be put in between the East and North stands.

A planning application will be submitted this month and the new facilities will be in use for the start of the 2012 season.

The changes will be the centrepiece of Warrington’s bid to host games in the 2013 World Cup and with St Helens and Salford set to move to new homes in 2012 as well, the club wants to remain ahead of the pack in Super League.

Andy Gatcliffe, club chief executive, said: “We always think positive at Warrington Wolves and want to be ahead of all the other clubs.

“The RFL holds us up as a template – we like that and we want to keep it that way.”

The club moved to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2004 and the board hopes the investment, being funded by the club, will help attract even more fans.

Buoyed by back-to-back Challenge Cup victories, season ticket sales are up 10 per cent this year.

And Wolves’ major shareholder Simon Moran is looking for fans to play their part in the stadium redevelopment.

He said: “It’s a significant investment and the feeling was that we need to keep moving forward.

“We’re in the higher echelons of Super League now and want to be there for years to come.

“We will need to fill the stadium to make it worthwhile so the fans need to do their bit to get more people coming along with them.

“Look at Manchester United. They made their ground bigger and they still fill it.”
