A RECOVERING drug addict has been jailed for 12 months.

David Tomason, aged 37, of Windermere Avenue, Orford, was jailed today, Monday at Warrington Crown Court after pleading guilty to burgling a Warrington home on June 4.

David Jones, prosecuting, said Tomason entered an open downstairs window of Mrs Maunder’s home while the family were asleep.

He took a laptop costing £370, a Playstation games console and four computer games.

Nova Howarth, defending Tomason, a career criminal, said her client her reached a point in life where he was willing to turn his back on a life of crime.

She said he was clean of drugs and asked for the judge to consider a community order.

Judge Thomas Teague said: “You had gone out looking for property to fund your heroin habit. You are 37 with many, many convictions.

“There is no doubt this is too serious for a final community penalty.

“I am afraid this is a chance to rehabilitate yourself that you have already had again and again.”

He added: “I simply do not accept that there is any realistic chance that you will apply yourself to an order if I make it.”
