MOTORISTS who use the Winwick junction of the M6 are facing four months of delays due to multi-million pound roadworks.

More than £3 million will be spent by the Highways Agency on developing a 1.5-mile section of the motorway spanning both sides of junction 22, which links to Winwick.

Around 110,000 vehicles use this section every day.

Daytime work will begin on Monday to install new safety barriers and make lamp posts energy efficient.

The hard shoulder will be closed throughout the project but the three motorway lanes will remain open although narrowed.

Work is expected to take four months.

Neal Symmons, project sponsor, said: “We are working to improve the roads network in the region, making sure our motorways are up to modern standards.

“This work will help provide more reliable journeys as well as more energy-efficient lighting.

“We have worked hard to minimise the impact on drivers.”
