WARRINGTON Light Opera have chosen to stage Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore in the round at the Derek Newton Theatre within Warrington Collegiate Institute. The show runs from Monday until Saturday and as usual, they will enjoy the accompaniment of the Manchester Opera Orchestra.

It will be the third time that the company have staged this lesser-known but superbly entertaining Savoy operetta and they have elected to drop the proscenium arch again following the success of The Pirates of Penzance in the round last year.

Says publicity officer Julia Kindon : "The theatre lends itself to varied productions. The comfortable seating may be moved around the suit the show and all seats are tiered to ensure maximum visibility. Excellent lighting and special effects can be created and the costumes will also guarantee a colourful production."

For what might well be the first time on the amateur stage, one of the ghosts that will emerge from their ancestral picture frames will be female.
