THERE are still members who are unaware that the day ticket waters controlled by Lymm Angling Club, except Tatton Mere, remain open and are freely available to those who have paid their 1997 subscriptions.

Grimsditch Mill Pool has slowed, with fish coming only to those fishing really fine tackle. The Old Quay Canal, following two days closure, is producing some nice fish including chub to 1.5lb.

The canal was closed whilst new pipework was being laid to the pumping station adjacent to New Chester Road. Unfortunately, the club was not given any official notice to the closure, therefore was unable to warn members of the situation.

The Sankey Canal at Widnes is producing good bags of fish for the pleasure angler, caster is producing the better fish.

On Lymmvale, the rod average remains above five for the trout anglers. However, the trout fishing remains fairly slow on Belmont Pool. It will be interesting to find out if the catch rate improved during the recent warmer weather.

Carp have been evident on Whitley Pool. Recent sunshine has brought them to the surface where they have provided their normal spectacle.

Last season the biggest fish weighed in at 27lb 12oz for member Chris Thorbjorson, hopefully the 30lb barrier will be surpassed this year.

Whitley Pool, Longbarn Pool and Tabley Moat have benefited from the recent exploits of the club's fishery department.

Longbarn Pool has shown improvements over the last fortnight, steadily this fishery is returning to its previous form and is now well worth a visit.

Members with red overstamps are getting a 'fish a chuck' on Farm Pool. The bulk of the catch is made up of chunky roach of about 5oz, with rudd and perch making regular appearances.

Other members wishing to earn their overstamps can do so at the work parties, the next being tomorrow, Saturday, at Sandy and Sandybank Pools and Sunday at Statham Pool, again meeting in the respective car parks at 9am.
