PEACE campaigners in Warrington are hoping to fix up a celebrity soccer match against a team from Northern Ireland.
It is hoped that the fund-raising game will be held some time this summer, possibly at Cantilever Park or Wilderspool.
A team from Lisburn wants to play in Warrington as part of its town's annual 'Torch of Hope' event, which was launched in the wake of the Warrington bombing in 1993.
The game, against a Warrington side which would feature various celebrities from the area, would be for charity with proceeds going towards a cardiac unit appeal.
Clr. Mike Hannon, chairman of the Warrington Ireland Reconciliation Enterprise, has supported the game, saying it would be good for the peace process.
