EVOCATIVE pictures of landmarks of the past, including the old Fish Market, the Grand Cinema, the Empire, along with many present day buildings, are featured in Memories of Warrington, a new book, now on sale in newsagents in the town, and at the GUARDIAN, in Sankey Street.

The book, published by True North, of Halifax, has a foreword by the GUARDIAN'sformer editor Mark Rossiter, and the paper also helped with providing information and pictures.

News stories and photographs of fires, floods, explosions add a touch of drama. The achievements of Warrington Rugby Club are chronicled up to the present day.

Harry Fairclough, Greenalls and Thomas Locker are among some of the town's oldest companies, whose stories are told in words and pictures.

Sir Thomas Boteler High School, Warrington Collegiate Institute, the Parish Church and Warrington's wartime activities are among features which serve as a reminder of a glorious past while looking forward to a bright future.

The book makes entertaining reading as a record of how the town has developed over the years.
