AN ACTION group is fighting for funds to help provide the community with much needed facilities.

The Gorse Covert Action Group is about to launch a fund raising campaign to provide cash for a school's extension.

Gorse Covert Primary School has applied for planning permission to extend the building's Village Room after governors gave the go-ahead for the scheme.

The extension will provide bigger and better facilities for groups across the whole community.

Pauline Gilroy, chair of the action group, said: "We are delighted with what's happened.

"The Village Room will provide facilities for the use of all the groups in the area.

"Now the governors have approved the scheme we are about to start gathering funds to pay for the extension."

The action group is also about to launch a youth club after Birchwood Parish Council donated £1,200 for a part time youth worker.

The group will run the youth club from the primary school's Village Room, starting from May 9.

Mrs Gilroy said: "The club will be open to all 11 to 16-year-olds in the Gorse Covert area.

"It will provide a suitable place for children to come and meet their friends."
