A GROUP dedicated to helping the sick have received £1000 for their cause.

FINCH, Friends In Community Health, raise money for the patients and staff of Warrington Community Health Care Trust.

They donate cash to buy equipment which is loaned to patients or used by trained professionals in the community. They also arrange volunteers to visit the sick and elderly at home.

They were given the cash grant by Grappenhall Slimming Club who raised it through quizzes and raffles.

The chairman of FINCH, George Ebbs, said: "We already have a number of plans for this money.

"One idea is to buy a large fish tank to cheer up the children's waiting room at Winwick Hospital and we would also like to buy more equipment for patients to use at home.

"We are very grateful to the slimming club for raising this money. Our work relies on donations and fundraising events so £1000 is most welcome. "
