BASKETBALL stars from Alsager's university campus will be showing off their skills this month as part of a drive to promote the sport.

A team from Alsager will take on a City of Stoke on Trent side at Biddulph Leisure Centre on April 27 at 4pm.

The match between the National League sides will be preceded by two hours of free coaching for boys and girls between 11 and 16 years of age.

"The match and the coaching are aimed at attracting local youngsters to the sport,'' said Tracy Jackson from the Moorlands district council.

The basketball initiative continues on May 4 with the start of an 11-week long Champion Coaching basketball course at the leisure centre between 10am and noon.

Experienced women players are also being sought to represent the district in an evening tournament in May at Stoke on Trent.
