HUNDREDS of residents are up in arms about plans to create a new pizza restaurant and fast food takeaway.

Some 524 people living nearby have signed a major petition opposing plans for the new business on Crewe Road, Alsager.

Hazel Kolahi wants to open the pizza parlour in a former soft furnishings shop at 74-76 Crewe Road.

However local people claimed there were too many fast food shops in the town, many of which were open late at night.

They claimed there were already ten takeaways on a 200-yard stretch of Crewe Road, and traffic would increase if the pizza plan was approved, and noise would carry on late into the night.

They added there were currently problems with litter, cooking smells and parking in Crewe Road, and a new shop would add to the trouble.

The residents were also concerned rowdy behaviour late at night would increase.

The plans do not include customer parking, and borough planning chief Geoff Allen has recommended throwing out the scheme because it was important the town kept the area for shops.
