MURDER, intrigue and corruption will be served up for Alsager theatregoers next week in one of the most famous revenge tragedies.

Celia Brooks takes the role of the duchess in The Duchess of Malfi, one of the most ambitious productions ever attempted by Alsager Community Theatre.

Alsager Civic Centre is the venue for the three-night run of the Jacobean revenge tragedy by John Webster, being staged on April 10, 11 and 12.

The play is also a milestone for Tony Butters from Alsager, who takes the part of Ferdinand in his 49th role for the company.

"It is a very ambitious play for us, and is very gory and full of intrigue,'' said publicity officer Barbara Evans.

"It is not suitable for under 14s, but we are hoping to attract older teenagers as the play is a set text for schools.''

The scheming spy Bosola is played by Andy Chapman, while Chris Morgan plays the Duchess' husband Antonio, with Terry Shutt as the Cardinal.

In addition Nick Ball and Alan Prior share the directors' chair for the first time.

For tickets for the show please contact the box office on 01270-884197 or Alsager information centre.
