ON loan striker Cooper gave County the lead two minutes before the interval last Saturday and it proved to be decisive.
Crewe had been pinned back by the home side in the opening half. It was not until the second period that Jones in the County goal was troubled.
A Steve Garvey effort was blocked, a Macauley header went just wide and a curling free kick from substitute caused problems but did not produce an equaliser.
It had been a game of two halves but that first half strike by County lifted them above the Alex in the table.
