POLICE were on hand to protect fire fighters answering a call to the former Leighton Park estate in Crewe on Easter Monday.
A police spokesman said: "We had reports of a gang of youths throwing stones at fire fighters at previous call-outs, so we attended just in case."
The fire, a suspected arson of four garages on Wren Close, was dealt with by two fire appliances while officers looked on.
There was no trouble on this occasion.
