WINSFORD could soon have its own girl group pop stars!

Three Woodford Lodge pupils have won through to the final stages of a competition set up by former Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith and Virgin Records which could see them clinch a record deal.

Gemma Weedock, aged 18 and her sister Debbie along with Sam Palmer both aged 16, have already impressed in the competition with their musical talent but the girls are refusing to be labelled the new Spice Girls.

Woodford Lodge music teacher Katy Wyss has likened the group to soul trio Eternal.

She said: "They are very talented and two of them can play as well as sing. It's very much pop music that they perform but they are very good at what they do and are nothing like the Spice Girls, in fact they can't stand them!

"The competition is a nationwide one and it seems that Nigel Martin Smith is looking to get a new group together in the end.

"A representative from the record company has been down to see them and he watched them perform as well as seeing how they are with interviews and other aspects of the music industry.

"They've done really well just to get this far and they should hear if they've made it to the next stage within two weeks."
