WINSFORD'S Neighbourhood Centre could be set to step in to save the town's unemployed.

After Winsford's jobless suffered a double blow with two separate schemes being closed due to a funding squeeze recently, the Cheviot Square-based centre is considering setting up a plan to provide help.

Centre worker Mike Wadkin said: "There may be a possibility that we can offer some help to the unemployed.

"But we will not be able to duplicate the service that was provided by the Jobclub. We can offer premises for one or two mornings each week for people to come and get help with things like CVs and other aspects of applying for jobs.

"We're here to help people but we need the help of others in the town to finance it.

"A trial run may be a possibility to see how it goes but money is tight. We need funding to help out with things like envelopes and stamps.

"Unemployment in the town is a real concern for us."
