Heysham Atoms 18

Widnes Albert 28

WIDNES ALBERT completed their league programme with an excellent victory at Heysham and in doing so finished joint top in Division Two forcing a play-off with Leigh Miners.

Brian Hunter sold a dummy, went through a gap and off loaded to the supporting Neil Horabin to score.

Heysham hit back with a penalty for offside and took the lead from a try in the corner.

Hunter again provided for Dave Yeomans to go over for a try to the right of the posts. Stuart Hussey converted then added a penalty and just before the break sent Richie O'Neill who went over for a try which Hussey also converted.

A Hussey penalty, try and conversion it 26-6 but with 10 minutes to go Heysham came back into the game when their centre scored next to the posts for a converted try.

With just a couple of minutes remaining Heysham set up an exciting finish with a controversial penalty try.

The Albert had the final say when Hussey landed a superb 40 yard penalty.

The Albert now take on Leigh Miners in the Division Two title play-off on Saturday at the Rylands Club, Warrington with a 2.30pm kick off.
