AS expected Norton Arms and Lion Doo Waps made certain of their respective section championships on the final day of league fixtures for the 1996/97 winter league.

Norton Arms who had Section Two for most of the season finally made certain of the title when a 112 finish from J Loney helped the champions to a 6/3 victory over Union Tavern A.

Likely Lads made certain of the runner-up spot when they beat local rivals Prospect Has Beens 6/3.

Halfway Gents took third place after beating Pirates 5/4 with the remaining top four place going to Waterloo who were able to overtake open dated Grangeway A Team after beating RNA also 5/4.

After a somewhat disappointing season for them Raven finished with a flourish and they were able to move off the foot of the table after beating Dads Army 5/4.

This match produced the quickest game of the night when Ravens, C Pill, finished in 14 darts and team-mate, R Duke, had a 19 dart game.

Raven in fact had to come back from 3/0 and later 4/2 down to earn this victory.

Lion Doo Waps wrapped up the Section Three championship when they gained a 6/3 victory over Fiddlers III, the losers finishing in fifth place.

Outcasts who prior to last weeks fixtures still had a chance to take the title had to settle for the runners-up place when they lost out 5/4 to Walkermen, the winners ending their season with three successive victories.

Bandits finished in third place after a 19 dart game from P Dunn helped his team to beat Tanners A 6/3 with Grapes A taking the remaining top four place after beating Blarney Stone 5/4, the losers, R Sayle, producing a 124 finish.

Beachers were able to finish ahead of Blarney Stone after beating Docksiders 7/2 and bottom of the table Draymen finished on a high note when they beat RSC B 5/4.

Although the Section One title had already been decided, pride was still at stake when the top teams met last week and it was champions Dockside B who came out on top when they beat runners-up Albion 6/3, F Horrocks hitting a maximum for the winners.

Third placed Navvy New Boys finished with a 7/2 away victory over Pavilions, A Robinson finishing on 127 (60,17, bull), for the winners.

The battle for fourth place went to Jolly Brewer who beat Wanderers 7/2, the losers finishing in joint fifth place with Halfway A who beat Red Admiral 5/4.

A 6/3 away victory over Weston Point SC resulted in Castle finishing in seventh place.

This match produced a 17 dart game which included a maximum from the losers E Holmes.

Bottom of the table Halton Marauders finish on a high when they beat Roundhouse A 6/3, the winners, E McCormick finishing on 123 (60,13, bull) while for the losers, H Wright, had a 19 dart game and G White finished in 18 darts which included a 115 finish.

Section Four champions The Burma ended their season with a 6/3 victory over bottom of the table No Pointers but the main interest in this section was the Castle for the runners-up spot with this going to Crofters who beat third placed Dreadnaughts 5/4.

In spite of beating Dukesfield 6/3, Total Confusion could not quite manage to catch open dated fourth place Geriatrics.

Clarendon and Newcastle finished level on points in sixth and seventh places, the former beating Royal Oak Aces 8/1 with Newcastle accounting for Union Tavern B by 6/3.

In the third round of the Greenall Cup played last Friday night, Navvy New Boys raced into a 4/2 lead against Grangeway A Team but once again they were plagued by a shortage of players and had to forfeit the remaining three games.

Tanners A provided the shock of the round when the Section Three team beat Section One opponents Weston Point SC 5/4.
