THE DRIVER of a double-decker bus which collided with a low bridge on a busway at Murdishaw, Runcorn in July last year appeared at Warrington Crown Court on Monday.

Geoffrey Bell, 41, of Stones Manor Lane, Hartford, near Northwich, denied a charge of dangerous driving but indicated he would be prepared to plead guilty to careless driving.

The court was told the prosecution was not prepared to accept such a plea and the case was adjourned until June 23. Bell was freed on bail.

Judge David Hale ordered that the jury should be drawn from a panel excluding people from Runcorn or Widnes.

Fifty children were injured in the accident.
