I REALLY sympathise with 'Arthur Ritis' (Guardian Letter, February 20) and others who wish to shop or do business in the diferent sectors of the town centre.

It is difficult for the elderly, the disabled and parents with toddlers to make calls, for example, in the Market, Sankey Street, the Library and the Cockhedge Centre while carrying shopping.

With this in mind, I have been proposing a solution to the planners from within the Borough Council.

My idea is to have a small, low-energy person-carrier similar to ones seen at major airports.

There would be seats but many passengers could stand and get on and off as the 'Warrington Whizzer' moved at safe speed through the town centre.

It could even be free!

With the competition which faces our shopping centre from out of town development, especially the Trafford Centre which will come on stream from this September, it is essential that we do all we can to promote the convenience and attraction of Warrington.

I have raised my project at many committees - even those attended by representatives of the business community - so far without success.
