SATURDAY saw the opening of Millbrook Trout Facility at Walton.

Water keeper Tony Aster reports lively action with up to 50 fish caught by Lymm Angling Club members. Such catch rates can not be expected all the time, although all practical steps will be taken to ensure good rod averages.

Tickets are available from the Complete Angler on Gainsborough Road, or via the PO Box.

Tony Aster will give all the latest information to any member and he can be contacted on 0151 420 8456.

Bailiff Ernie Houldin had a red latter day on Statham Pool. Fishing from 9am until 1.30pm Ernie caught 15lbs with just 18 fish landed. Not an exceptional catch until you learn that all the fish were roach, the best weighing in at 2.5lbs, a specimen by anyone's standards. It was big maggot that did the business on the hook with nearly all the fish taken on the drop.

Tom Casey found the River Severn at Atcham in good form. He caught barbel to 7lbs and chub to 5lbs. Tom described his outing as the best fishing you can expect anywhere at this time of year.

Tom's water craft is extremely fascinating, as he can spend most of his session walking the bank looking for the tell tale signs of a good swim and still catch more fish than anglers who have fished from the beginning of the session. He and the rest of the Atcham regulars plan to go again next Sunday, giving members who fancy the trip an opportunity to cash in on their knowledge.

Sue Jupp had a productive few hours on the Old Quay Canal. Using only pinkies as bait Sue landed chub to 1lb, crucian carp to 12ozs, perch to 8ozs and a golden tench of 2.5lbs. This water has benefited from a lot of work undertaken by Warrington Borough Council and the club.

Members are reminded that Lymmvale is now closed to coarse fishing, but will be opening to Lymmvale trout permit holders on Sunday.

Statham Pool was the beneficiary of Sunday's work party. Head water keeper, Derek Ormrod, reported that a lot of work was undertaken with good results. Path restoration, tree pruning and the removal of underwater obstacles was the main tasks and this will continue tomorrow, Saturday as part of the next scheduled work party.
