CARP to 16lbs are featuring strongly in Sandy and Sandybank Pools, with the best fish falling to Lymm Angling Club member G. Dumphy.

Tench to 2.5lbs and bream to 4lbs have featured among the non-stop action supplied by the ubiquitous rudd and roach.

Lymmvale continues to be the Mecca for specimen hunters. Phil Corley managed to match his National Record by landing a golden orfe of 7lbs 10ozs, a fish predicted to be over 8lbs by November.

During July, 1448 tench over 1lb have been reported on catch returns, the average weight of the fish caught was over 3lbs with the best weighing in excess of 8lbs caught by member H. Roscoe.

Along with the tench, chub to 6lbs 10ozs have been landed. The biggest graced waters keeper Mike Wilkinson's net.

Carp have also made regular appearances throughout July, the biggest weighing 18lbs 2ozs.

Jeff Monton, who refuses to be outdone, landed the month's best Lymmvale barbel which pulled Jeff's scales down to just over 8lbs.

Whitley Pool has provided incredible sport over the last week, with its full spectrum of fish obliging.

Top performers were crucien carp, which are being caught by the dozen. These fish weigh up to three pounds and are often accompanied by small carp.

The small carp really do put up a scrap that defies their few pounds and I defy anyone to show me a mirror carp as pretty as the small mirrors in Whitley Pool.

Tench to 5lbs, roach to 1lb, bream to 3lbs and rudd to 15ozs have all contributed to the action.

Official Mark Clowes and his dad, Tony, reported a good day on Willow Pool where they landed some good carp on Saturday.

Their outing culminated in Mark landing a carp of 20lbs. This fish is obviously from adjacent Belmont Pool and has been transferred illegally.

Anglers are not doing anyone any favours by moving fish and if caught the club will not only expell them but also ask the Environment Agency to prosecute offenders under the Salmon and Fresh Water Fish Act.

Founders Pool has continued to provide excellent sport with specimen roach providing numerous members with their personal best record roach. Carp, perch, cruciens, bream and a catfish have all added to the action.

A big well done to all the women who fished last Saturday's Women's NFA National Match on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Rugeley.

The venue fished poorly but they still gave it their all. Congratulations to the Warrington AA squad who shone on the day taking team and individual honours.

Our own squad, depleted on the day due to a trip to Ireland, conducted themselves magnificently and remain a credit to the club.
