POLICE are investigating the cause of a house fire in Alder Street, Newton, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Firefighters had to force their way into the council house to tackle the blaze, which began in the kitchen and caused extensive damage to the surrounding rooms and ceiling.
No one was hurt in the blaze.
