YOUNG council employees will be encouraged to scale mountains and enjoy adventurous camping holidays, if a new scheme is given the go-ahead.

Borough leaders want to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme for its workers to encourage teamwork, initiative and self-confidence.

The programme of leisure activities aims to enhance the personal and social development of young people aged 14 to 25.

Clr Pauline Nelson, chairman of the Youth and Community Sub-Committee, said: "I am a convert to the Duke of Edinburgh's award Scheme.

"It is a great scheme and Warrington has a very good record of achievement."

A decision on whether to introduce the programme will be taken at the end of January.
