OVERJOYED parents George and Deborah Hammond are to raise money for the hospitals which saved their son's life.

Six-year-old Adam Hammond is back home with his mum and dad after being treated for meningococcal septicaemia.

He was rushed into hospital after his dad spotted one of the symptoms of the deadly disease, and spent two and a half days on a life support machine.

He came out of hospital on Saturday, and his parents thanked the doctors and nurses who treated Adam for their superb care.

''They were brilliant, and I felt like kissing them all,'' said Mr Hammond, from Dale Crescent, Congleton.

''Adam has made a miraculous recovery, and is only alive because I got him to hospital in time, combined with the quality of care he received, which was 110 per cent.''

Adam was treated at Macclesfield Hospital and North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary, for which Mr and Mrs Hammond are to raise money as a way of saying thankyou.

''We also want to thank family, friends and relatives for their help and all the cards and presents,'' said Mr Hammond.

''I recognised the symptoms of meningitis through my first aid training, and parents need to be aware of them.''
