POLICE are hunting two men in balaclavas who tied up a postmaster during an attempted robbery in Crewe.

The incident happened on the evening of Tuesday, January 5, at 6.40pm at the Post Office on Newcastle Road in Hough.

The 40-year-old postmaster was securing the rear of the post office when he was accosted by two men wearing balaclavas.

They tied his hands and forced him to lie on the floor but ran off empty handed.

The postmaster was able to free himself and alerted police. He was unhurt but shaken.

The first offender was between 5ft 10 and 6ft, of thin build and the second was about 5ft 6 or 5ft 7, also of thin build and a possible Irish accent.

Crewe CID are also appealing for two men seen in the area around the time of the attempted robbery to get in touch.

The two white men, both in their 20s, were in the car park at the White Hart Public House.

The left the car park in a dark coloured, possibly blue or black, Citroen BX with a spoiler. The car may have been an E-reg.

They turned right out of the car park towards Back Lane and the motorway and the police are keen to speak to them.
