WITH a combination of snow, rain and fisheries iced over this past week all I can say is it can only get better for Warrington Anglers' Assocation

Sport was dire on the canals with the Bridgewater matches only producing decent weights from isolated pegs. Although bream made up the winning nets, perch were the main species with roach hardly showing in some areas.

Small roach and perch were feeding well at Cicily Mill Pool taking maggot or pinkies. I received a complaint from a member of being showered with spent shot from persons shooting pheasants adjacent to the fishery. Anyone with information on this please give me a ring.

I have had a late report of good chub catches from the River Trent taken on legered worm. Fish averaged 2lbs and were in perfect condition. Evidently the road is in a bad state and until matters can be improved I would advise members to park at the edge of the track adjacent to the sewage works car park.

Despite most rivers being out of the game the exception was the Derwent where our bailiff Paul Buck reports some good perch and grayling catches. Use feeder fished bronze or red maggot for best results.

Saturday junior matches are being held on the Trent and Mersey Canal for a change. These are open to WAA and Northwich members. Please ring HQ tonight, Friday, on 637525 or myself on the number below for details.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight for new members, subscriptions, or simply call in for a chat about fishing. I can be contacted with your queries and catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 713898.
