WARRINGTON Sports Personality Awards' dinner is a sell-out.

More than 200 sports stars and their guests will pack into the Village Hotel on January 22 for the announcement of the 1998 awards winners.

It just shows the popularity of the event that all the tickets have been bought by the nominees, having none left to go on general sale.

Those lucky guests fortunate to have tickets will be treated to a superb night. The dinner will be followed a comedy spot from Paul Boardman, the son of Liverpool funnyman Stan Boardman.

Paul is a television star in his own right after his football career with Plymouth Argyle went wrong. He was signed at the Home Park club by former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton when he was manager of Devon's top team but a bad injury forced Boardman to quit after three years.

Television and radio presenter and commentator Stuart Hall will be the compere for the glitzy show and there will be a disco and bar to help the celebrations along.

Tonight, Friday, it is the turn of the juniors to have centre stage. Four category winners will be receiving their awards at the Town Hall and a special feature on their night of champions will be in next week's GUARDIAN. Tonight's presentations begin at 7pm with guests assemble by 6.45pm.
