A YOUNG woman who contracted the deadly meningitis bus has received get well wished from a very special visitor.

Warrington Wolves prop Gary Chambers took time out from his training to visit 19-year-old Karen Caley in Warrington Hospital where she was recovering from the disease.

As reported in Friday's GUARDIAN, Karen, of Wellfield Street, Sankey Bridges, is a devoted rugby fan and follows her team home and away.

Gary is one of her favourite players and when he heard about her illness, he was delighted to call and see her. He passed on the Wolves' best wishes, a bouquet and a get-well card painted by his son, Scott.

Mum Pam said: "Karen was made up when Gary arrived. She was really pleased to see him."

Karen was admitted to hospital on the Sunday, December 27. It was thought that she was suffering from flu, but then she discovered a rash and medics confirmed that she had contracted meningitis.

After being treated with intravenous antibiotics, her condition improved and she was finally discharged from hospital on Friday to complete her recovery at home. The family is now planning to carry on their Christmas celebrations which were cut short when Karen was taken ill.

Pam said: "Karen is very much improved and it's great to have her home.

"You worry that even if they pull through they will still be left with something, but the doctors don't think there will be any lasting effects."

And Pam praised the way her brave daughter faced her sickness: "She hasn't complained once!"
