CONGLETON'S rugby men blew their chance of finishing third in the league at the end of the season by going down 16-7 at home at the weekend.

Congleton got off to a disastrous start, with Bowdon scoring after only two minutes.

A full back ran through several tackles before chipping ahead and winning the race for a touchdown, the try being converted.

Bowdon extended their 7-0 lead with two second half penalties, before Congleton put their first points on the board with a penalty try.

However Bowdon continued to cause problems with their penetrating runs, and a further penalty for the away side put the game out of Congleton's reach.
