FANTASTIC fund-raisers from a Congleton high school have raised a whopping £2,800 with a series of Comic Relief capers.

The superb total was raised from a series of imaginative events at Heathfield High, the highlight of which was a memorable Stars in their Eyes karaoke.

Staff and sixth formers belted out classic hits from The Spice Girls, Rod Stewart and Elvis Presley in a 40-minute show

Among the star turns was school publicity officer Keith Tideswell, who teamed up with his wife Judy for a rendition of the Sonny and Cher classic I Got You Babe.

The £3,000-plus total was raised from a series of events, including a non-uniform day last term, Christmas concert and Year 10 Christmas fair.

More money came in from a second non-uniform day on Friday, with pupils being encouraged to dress in red, the sale of red noses, and a bucket collection.

In addition sixth form boys were due to have their legs waxed yesterday to raise more cash.

''Everyone has been amazed at how much money we have raised,'' said Mr Tideswell.

''Heathfield has a history of being brilliant at supporting charities, as well as coming up with ideas for fund-raising.

''The atmosphere at the Stars in their Eyes karaoke was incredible, and the whole thing was superb.

''More than 15 staff took part, as well as number of sixth formers.''

The school council decided last October to donate all the money from its fund-raisers up to and including Friday's fun events to Comic Relief.

Mr Tideswell thanked everyone who supported and took part in Friday's charity fun, including the canteen staff, who cooked up as many red food items as they could think of.
