I WOULD like to respond to the children who recently asked for my support in getting Vale Royal Borough Council to allow them to play ball games on land surrounded by Boundary Lane North and South, and Manor Road.

No council would condone ball games on land which had houses and flats around it, plus traffic on four sides, and rightly so.

When I moved on to the estate 41 years ago there was a sign to this effect, though a few think that if they vandalise the sign they can do what they like.

In those days I had young children so I was delighted when Cuddington and Sandiway playing fields opened, giving them somewhere to play without causing a nuisance to residents.

I supported the committee then and still do, representing all the village children.

No responsible parent would allow their children to play on the road when we have the best play area in Mid Cheshire, which is situated on Norley Road opposite Cuddington Post Office.

Though there can't be many, people come from miles to use its extensive facilities - there is a 36ft box slide, the only one in Cheshire, which is safer than ever, since the committee installed a platform half way up the steps, and there is enough room for at least three games of football to be played at once.

Yes, I know little ones have to be watched, but then they do on the road or land adjacent to it.

The village youngsters are a good bunch with the exception of a few who want to spoil things.

A reminder that for every £100 spent on repairs, it is £100 less to go on play equipment or treatment for your field.

Worse still, because the money mainly comes from your parents, thanks to the support of the Parish Council and the parish rate.

B DEARDEN, Cuddington.
